A Dress a Day?

Yeah, probably not apt to keep the doctor away, but there aren't many clever titles... Yeah.

I recently organized my closet. I found Narnia and all of my dresses. I have thirty seven dresses.

Death

I spend too much time looking up pictures and facts about dead bodies online. Hey, I'd like to know how to look like a legit zombie.

I finally found a decently useful site that I can stand. Anomalies Unlimited has a really good section on death. It's interesting.

"They Called Him Great Scott-

Because He Was Great. They Called Her Great Susan, 'Cause She Was His Date. She Climbed In A Box, He Cut Her In Two, And When He Was Through She Was Just Half A Woman."

Tonight has been interesting. I'm not sure how I ended up watching Nacho Libre, but it's on TV and I'm not going to search for the remote. I decided to paint a ceramic bunny-shaped piggy bank.

He's missing an ear. I found him in the trashcan at work, and he was too cute to leave there.

I decided that since he is missing an ear, he must have been a magician's bunny that was teleported oddly and his ear was left in the place he was at before he popped out of the hat.

...Mountain Dew influenced this.

I painted him white, and then got out the red acrylic... I'm not sure what I'll use him for... I don't really need a coin bank. =/

This Day in History:

Today in history, Butch DeFeo murdered his entire family in Amityville. Amityville Horror? Yes.

"Ronald DeFeo, Jr. was the eldest son of the family, and was also known as "Butch". He was taken to the local police station for his own protection after suggesting to police officers at the scene of the crime that the killings had been carried out by a mob hit man named Louis Falini. However, an interview with DeFeo at the station soon exposed serious inconsistencies in his version of events, and the following day he confessed to carrying out the killings himself. He told detectives: 'Once I started, I just couldn’t stop. It went so fast.' "

Halloween

Might as well share my favorite sites?

In no particular order:

The Art of Alex CF has some amazing artwork. I wish I could see it in person... =/

The FX Lab is a good website to look at for inspiration on special effects make-up.

I love Terror Syndicate. End of story. Now on to the next story.

Someday, I want to be on Zombie Pinups. No really, I do. =]

The Art Of Darkness always has link dumps that send me to cool places, like Badder Homes And Gardens.

I Make Projects has some good tutorials and stuff, and so does Stolloween and My Ghoul Friday.

Food is good, and so is this Speared Eyeball Garnish. At least I'm assuming it's good. I should probably try and make it before I recommend it.

Pushin Daisies and Design Toscano both have cool stuff for sale.

The Monster Page of Halloween Projects is just that- 854 links to projects. Dear God.

I Know All About Them.

Curses seem to have been popular in discussion topics at work lately. Uh, anyway, I've always thought voodoo and hexes are interesting. Actually, I think just about anything is interesting. Wait-- except anime; I think it's ridiculous.

A curse is any misfortune thought to be inflicted by any supernatural power, such as a spell, a prayer, an imprecation, an execration, magic, witchcraft, a god, a natural force, or a spirit.

  • Voodoo is comprised of the jinx/haitians and crossed conditions, as well as a form of foot track magic, whereby cursed objects are laid in the paths of victims and activated when walked over.
  • Middle Eastern and Mediterranean culture is the source of the belief in the evil eye, which may be the result of envy but, more rarely, is said to be the result of a deliberate curse. In order to be protected from the evil eye, a protection item is made from dark blue circular glass, with a circle of white around the black dot it the middle, which is reminiscent of a human eye. The size of the protective eye item may vary.
  • Germans speak in terms of hexing, and a common hex in days past was that laid by a stable-witch who caused milk cows to go dry and horses to go lame.
  • Indians use the words Shaap in Hindi and Marathi, shapam in Malayalam, and Sabam in Tamil.
  • Some of the most well known Celtic curses are Curse stones, Egg curses, New Year curses and Milk curses. Curse stones generally involve particle stones with the power to curse. One example of curse stones involves turning a stone three times and saying the name of a person to curse. Egg curses are a fertility curse. If eggs were buried or hidden on someone's land it was believed the hider could steal the land's fertility and therefore the luck. There are also methods believed to break these curses. New year curses, like egg curses, state that if something is taken from someone on the new year, their luck is taken for the year. Stealing back the item or bush is believed to return the luck. Milk curses were curses put on a household in which milk from others cows was drunk.
Certain landmarks or locales are said to be cursed. Various lakes, rivers and mountains have been called cursed. The alleged Bermuda Triangle effect is believed by some to be some form of curse by many. Babinda's Boulders, on Australia's mid-north coast, is a place known for the Devil's Pool, a group of waterholes known to be dangerous to young male travellers, but never claiming the lives of locals or females. However, even when there is a location where people die in a distinct pattern, it is not always considered cursed. For example, someone is said to drown in Lough Gur in Limerick, Ireland every seven years but the lake is not considered cursed by the locals.

The Curse of 27 is the belief that 27 is an unlucky number due to the number of famous musicians and entertainers who have died at the age. Robert Johnson, Jim Morrison, Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Ron "Pigpen" McKernan, Janis Joplin, Jonathan Brandis and Kurt Cobain are all believed to have been affected by the curse of 27.

Check out the wikipedia article on Nocebos, too. It's pretty interesting; it's not anime.
